For my bachelor's graduation project I wanted to transform my university's orientation program to an interactive serious game. In 2020, new students of Koç University attended online video calls as their orientation program and did not have a chance to explore the university campus on-site. The aim of 360 Koç University is to help the newcomers of the university to explore the campus and learn about the important places in the university from home.

Before the pandemic, students were able to explore the campus with their mentors. With the 360 Koç University application, students can navigate around the campus in Turkish or in English.

​

The mentors have text-to-speech audio files where they talk about the scene the student is currently in. They explain how it is relevant to the university's history and it's functionality.

​

With the application, students are also able to teleport to highlighted locations around the campus if they want to walk around as they wish.

​

At certain locations, the students will come across mini-games that will teach them fun facts about the university.

Responsibilities

Game Designer & Programmer:​

  • Designed the mini-games

    • Treasure Hunt: Users can collect unique items that are related to the university and add them into their inventory​

    • Mini-Quiz: Users answer questions related to the university to learn trivia facts

    • Album Book: Users can look through an interactive book to see photos of events that took place at certain locations in the campus

  • Audio Design:​

    • Managed the sound logic​

  • Technical Design:

    • Built game logic

    • Implemented "street view" like navigation​

    • Scripted map view and fast-travel teleportation​​

UI Designer:​

  • Design:​

    • Adjusted the placement of the icons on the UI​

    • Applied the university's design rules and colors to the logos and buttons

    • Implemented icons and buttons

  • Scripting:

    • Added functionality to the buttons​

    • Worked with the Vector Graphics package in Unity Engine to scale UIs without any loss in quality

  • Animation:

    • Scripted animations for canvas objects to fly-in and out​

  • Accessibility:

    • Managed the localisation package in Unity Engine to support both English and Turkish languages​

    • Optimized text-to-speech settings

​

Project Management:​

  • Organized team meetings, and feedback sessions

  • Distributed tasks amongst other team members
